Climate Scenarios
You can gain important insight into the climate issues by working with scenarios for the development of the world, and by quantifying these scenarios.
The good news is that you don't need a PhD in climate and climate models to get this insight.
The students in the 1st semester of Energy Systems at the University of Southern Denmark have for a number of years created climate scenarios for 2050, and discussed the options for meeting the Paris target.
They have first completed the creative process where they have discussed the future and determined the scenarios. They have then quantified the data to be included in the Strategirummet's Climate Scenario Model. They then ran the model and discussed the temperature changes that are a consequence of their scenarios.
The exercises have shown that it is important to act quickly because the climate is a "supertanker" that takes a long time to react to changes. The exercises have also shown that it is difficult to meet the Paris target.
Below is a link to "The Very Simple Climate Model", which is a very simple model where users input the global C emissions, year by year, and the model then calculates the corresponding temperature changes on the globe.
The second model, which is presented below, is the Strategirummets's Climate Scenario Model. In this model, users must enter key values for the development of the global energy system, then the model calculates the corresponding CO2 emissions and how these emissions affect the global temperature up to 2050. The Very Simple Climate Model is integrated into the Strategirummet's Climate Scenario Model .
