The History Room
Why is history important?
Because it shows:
- Who are typically the ones who take the lead in connection with the further development of the energy system
- Which objectives have over time been decisive for the strategic decisions regarding further development of the energy system
- How different global events have affected the balance between the different goals
- The long time constant between inventing a new technology or improving an existing technology and until the technologies in question take up some space in the energy system
Why do you have to spend time interpreting history?
Because it shows:
- You have to have a common "mindset" to be able to develop scenarios for the future
- The storytelling and the interpretation of the story provide this shared mindset
- One does not have to agree on the interpretation, but knowledge of any disagreements is very important when creating scenarios for the future
The physical story room, where the scenario group meets with the history experts, should preferably be established in a location and in a room where you can see the story and where the scenario group automatically puts on the "long glasses".
The scenario process starts with the scenario group being presented with the story that has brought the global and national energy system to its current state. The participants in the scenario process discuss and interpret the historical development, and agree on the lessons that can be extracted from history, which they will use in connection with preparing their scenarios.
The story room on the e2g platform is the place where story descriptions from previous scenario processes become available to others and where the experts can get inspiration for their story description.
Below are examples of descriptions of the historical development and what can be learned from it. The wish is that more examples will be used in line with the fact that there are more decision-makers who choose to carry out a scenario process.
